Secondary Maths Network Meeting
Wednesday 10 March 2021 | 1400 - 1600 | Online
This network meeting is intended to create a support network in which schools can share ideas and effective practice and discuss issues about Maths GCSEs. The focus will be on practical solutions to common challenges in order to gain expert advice and guidance from examiners and other lead professionals.
Tom Francome, Senior Fellow at the Centre for Mathematical Cognition (CMC) in Loughborough University’s Mathematics Education Centre, will be leading a session on:
'Mixing Things Up’ – Adapting and Extending for Mixed-Attainment Teaching.
Tom has taught Mathematics for many years in Birmingham schools, most notably leading his Department to win the TES Award for 'Maths Team of the Year 2015'. He has also contributed lesson materials for the EEF-funded project on Best Practice in Mixed-Attainment Teaching for which he was awarded the 2016 BCF-BERA Routledge Curriculum Journal Prize.
Tom's role as CMC Senior Fellow is to connect practitioners with research; integrating basic research, academic scholarship, and practical experience. He is currently researching the nature of practising in Mathematics and co-author of Practising Mathematics: developing the Mathematician as well as the Mathematics.
